COMMEMORATION OF THE BAMILEKE MARTYRS

La’akam organizes an annual commemoration for the Bamileke Martyrs who fell during the Cameroon War of Independence. To this end, an international conference on the Bamileke genocide is held to shed light on this dark period in Cameroon’s history.

On April 18-20, 2025, we will mark the 5th edition of this event.

Honoring the Memory of the Bamileke Martyrs

This event serves as a tribute to the thousands of Bamileke people who lost their lives during the Cameroon War of Independence. By remembering their sacrifices, the event ensures that their struggles for freedom and justice are not forgotten.

Raising Awareness and Educating Future Generations

The commemoration and international conference aim to bring attention to the Bamileke genocide, a chapter of history that remains largely unknown to many. Through discussions, academic research, and testimonies, the event helps to educate younger generations about the historical injustices faced by their ancestors.

Promoting Justice, Reconciliation, and Historical Recognition

By shedding light on this dark period in Cameroon’s history, the event contributes to the broader fight for historical recognition and justice. It provides a platform for dialogue on human rights, reconciliation, and healing.
